You all remember the whole Adam, Eve, and the snake thing,
right? I don’t have to go into detail I hope. Not that we have much
detail, it’s all very cryptic, which has made for great conversations
amongst scholars who like to spend their lives in debate over the fine
points. This weekend was the 340th anniversary, always an important one,
of the date when John Milton sold Paradise Lost for a whopping
ten pounds. I don’t know if that was good money for a book in 1667, but it
seems to me that he lost out on a whole lot more than Paradise.
Regardless, we here at Casa S decided to pay a little homage in the form
of a dinner based on the Garden of Eden, or more specifically, the Tree of
Knowledge - you know, the one they ate the fruit from. The question is,
just exactly what fruit? And that’s been the debate over the millenia…

From some of the guests:
"We thoroughly enjoyed our evening with you on April 27. You
really draw a great mix of interesting people together and we loved it.
We had a great time meeting everyone and the wine paring allowed us to
extend our very limited knowledge. We look forward to another visit
hopefully this year!" - J.D.
"E... and I had a great time. The wine pairings were
excellent. I wasn't wild about the clam dish but that might be cause I'm
not wild about clams in general. I like the heat, the flavoring and the
clam texture but I always find clams to be a bit strong tasting for me.
Unless other people had the same reaction, I'd mark it down to personal
preference. It would be very nice if you could provide each guest with a
list of the wines served so if we particularly liked one, we could look
for it. I'll be back next time I'm in BA." - B.T.
"Just arrived this morning in Toronto from our trip. The evening
was very lovely and your setting is great!!!!. I wish it would have been
warmer and we could have had a welcome drink in your garden. I love the
way you tie in your dinner with a theme. Henry was great, always
smiling...wish I would have had time for a massage. I will certainly
tell people about you on my web site....hope to put something together
within the next month. With thanks for a very special evening, Big
Kisses as they say in BA." - M.B.
"Thanks for opening your home to us all last night. It was a
delightful evening of great food and good company. Thanks for the good
attention!" - L.R.
"We just got back from our trip and one of the highlights was
dinner at Casa Saltshaker! It was a great mix of folks and a fun
evening, with your comments on all the various definitions of the tree
of knowledge. You and Henry did a great job! Finally, if I write a small
article about our meals "behind closed doors," would it be ok with you
if I mentioned Casa Saltshaker? Thanks, again, for a fun evening!" -
B.G.
