May 11-12, 2007

Miskolc (”Mishkolts”) is Hungary’s third largest city. 11th of May is the official holiday of the city of Miskolc, Hungary. The city’s council proclaimed this day as a holiday in 1992 and it was first celebrated in 1993. It is the anniversary of the granting of the coat of arms of the city in 1909 by King Franz Joseph. While it’s by no means the only city in the world that has its own holiday, it happened that since Miskolc’s fell this weekend, it gave me an excuse to play around with some Hungarian cuisine.

From some of the guests:

"J... and I want to thank you and Henry for a great time last night. Conception, execution and sevice were all terrific." - P.S.

"Dinner was very good, as expected. And you were right --- it was an interesting group of folks there. I enjoyed meeting everyone. I particularly liked the fish (don't remember what you called the dish) and the chicken dishes. I liked the others also, but those especially stood out." - B.R.

"Los cinco coincidimos en que fue excelente, desde la atencion, el ambiente, la gente con las que compartimos y sobre todo la comida. Nunca habiamos estado en un resto de este tipo, y salimos muy contentos con la experiencia. Asi que nos estaremos viendo nuevamente. Muchas gracias." - M.G.

"Thank you for having us in your home, we had a great time. Although i normally like very spicy food (unlike queen Elizabeth), i really enjoined the meal. The food was very flavourful and i even find myself thinking about it the next day!!! The wine was fantastic as well. We met another couple at your place and end up meeting them for dinner , another dimension of our casa saltShaker experience. So thank you very much again for the lovely evening. I am sure we will come again in the future." - O.P.

"The food was delicious! We really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks for the memorable evening!" - L.D.

"I don't really have any suggestions or criticisms, but I did want to mentioned that my parents talked about the dinner for the rest of the time here, and I'm sure it'll make its way into many stories back home. They really enjoyed it and I really would like to thank you again for such a wonderful experience. My parents and brother have friends who are in training to be chefs and are going back and telling them about their experience, and also to learn their wines inside out, thanks to your display of what can result. C... and I will definitely be back. I can understand why you limit groups, though I think things worked out well enough on Friday night, luckily. Definitely keep your rule, I can see how a large group could ruin everyone's evening." - R.B.
