Let’s see, World Ocean Day… seafood. Earth Summit in Brazil… Brazilian… that’s easy for a theme, no? Except… my experience of Brazilian food consists of half a dozen visits to some Brazilian restaurants in midtown Manhattan over the years, most often to a vhurrascaria, one of those all you can eat steakhouse kind of places where they carve slices off at tableside, and, lunch at a friend’s house here in BsAs where he’d prepared the Brazilian national dish, feijoada, which also doesn’t involve fish. So, the internet and cookbooks, as often happens with these dinners, became my friends. And, after both my research, and the food that we ended up eating, I’m ready for a trip to Brazil to eat the real thing. I was also put to the test - purely by chance, a group of four had booked for the first evening before I’d decided on the theme, and I didn’t know it until they reconfirmed, that they were coming from Brazil! Hopefully, I acquitted myself acceptably…

From some of the guests:

"We are now back to real life in São Paulo! All I can say is that we had a lovely evening at Casa Saltshaker - great food, great wine, interesting conversation. The idea is different, very creative. It was nice to meet you and Henry. Henry does his part with such elegance, he seems to be a very sweet person. The Brazilian touch you gave to the food was nice, moqueca and vatapá are typical foods from Bahia, in the northeast of Brazil. I'm sure you would enjoy getting to know more about Brazilian food, there is such a variety!! I recommend you come visit some time and we will be happy to introduce you to other Brazilian flavors." - A.G.

"Thanks for the evening. The food was something very different and was delicious. You are very creative with the menu and the ingredients. We will definitely recommend you to people looking for a unique dining experience." - J.O.

"Dinner was wonderful and the other guests were a delight!" - A.Y.

"Both T... and I had a great time at Casa SaltShaker and can't think of anything that needs to be pointed out for improvement. Thanks again for the dining opportunity! - K.C.

"The whole evening was lovely, and a perfect send-off for A...'s last night in South America!" - M.C.
