While there’s no question that over the years British food has improved, even excelled, it is still the butt of many a culinary world joke. So the idea of a West Midlands inspired dinner to celebrate the annual Lady Godiva procession (with no reenactment on either our part, nor requested of our guests) raised the question… what exactly are we going to eat? I have no doubt that our potential guests had visions of some sort of suet pie, bangers and mash, and a toad in a hole. I admit, I actually considered just going with some classic jokes of the culinary world - sort of a British white trash dinner… updated of course. Instead, I decided on a more “inspirational” approach, using some of the typical combinations and flavors and coming up with my own ideas.

Thoughts from some of our guests:

"Quería decirte que estuve con mucho agrado ayer en la reunión. En cuanto a mis espectativas, si bien me encanta practicar otros idiomas y conocer gente de otros países, ellos se van, están de paso y yo intento contactarme con personas con las cuales pueda continuar en contacto. Tal vez algún día puedas avisarme si se anotan interesados, con estas características. Gracias, un cariño" - M.I.

"me gustó, ya te recomendé a un amigo" - J.S.

"B... and I had a truly enjoyable evening with you at Casa Saltshaker. We felt like we were particularly fortunate to be included with such an interesting group of smart and congenial people. Your food and service were impeccable, as we’d been told by R.... It’s hard to think of a way the evening could have been improved, although I guess we’d have liked to have had a Malbec on the wine tasting menu – maybe in place of the Cab. We’ll recommend CS to friends, including G... & K..., who arrive next week. Thanks again." - C.S.

"My husband & I really had a great time. The food & wine were a hit & the fact that you get to meet people that you ordinarily would not meet was a nice touch. We will be back the next time we are in BUE hopefully next year & have reccomended you to some friends as well. I just gave them your phone number & the info to your website. Good Luck in the future & the continued success of Casa SaltShaker. (Love the name by the way)" - N.B.

"B... and I would like to thank you very much for having us. We both enjoyed the night a great deal. We have only just returned from our South American trip and have both said that the night was a significant highlight. In terms of feedback, we have only congratulations to give. Managing the kitchen, menu, wine and ambience is a tall order!" - T.L.
