...So what we did do, was a last minute change of theme. The dozen folk remaining who were split between the two nights of the planned dinners had all told me that if we were to change away from a completely vegetable based menu, they certainly wouldn’t object. I recontacted them, made sure that they were all fine with a seafood based menu, and put together a menu around a trio of personal favorites that I’m working on “perfecting”.

Comments from some of our guests:

"I had a wonderful time on Saturday evening; kudos to the two of you for the following reasons: 1. I ate everything, but did not feel stuffed; you cook with a light touch, and I am most appreciative. 2. Everything was delicious (I know, I know, you want some constructive criticism, and I will offer it later); 3. I especially liked the combination of the shrimps with the avacado on the potato timbal -- ditto the risotto and baby scallops, soup and fish. I was not wild about the poached pears, but need to explain I am not a big dessert eater although I am a chocaholic. That being written, I thought it a light dessert and was thankful. You cook the way I would like to think I do, and that is lightly. Food does not have to be swimming in oil or overly saline to be tasty; 4. I think the evening was very successful. I know M... enjoyed the food and the company also. And so, I thank you and agin wish you a very happy 50th birthday -- wish I could be here." - N.P.

"Thanks for a delicious meal and a lovely evening. I would highly recommend your dinners to anyone. The atmosphere you created really set the dinner up for a good meal and experience. On the food side of the equation, if I had to pick a minor peeve i had, it would have to be the lack of a more picante or a lemony tangy note on the fish dish in particular. I just found that the fried garlic did not perhaps deliver the 'kick' it was supposed to and something of a shot to the senses would have helped a little. Apart from that i loved the food. the banana guac in particular was excellent, and I adored the dessert (i think i was the only one to eat both halves and the sauces)." - G.L.
